Description for B&B:

We are situated alongside the "William the Conqueror" course, adjacent to the Abbey aux Dames, and just a short 5-minute stroll from the city center. Our room has been beautifully refurbished to exude the essence of an elegant eighteenth-century home. We take great pride in offering an extensive collection of literature on the city and its surrounding region, which we are eager to share with our guests. Additionally, our breakfast presents an excellent opportunity to savor delightful local delicacies and other delectable treats that we thoroughly enjoy preparing.

Appréciations pour Le Relais Saint Gilles, Caen:

Wonderful host, delightfully charming room
Review by: Julie Goldsbury, Oct 7 2018 4:26AM
We stayed at Le Relais Saint Gilles for two nights. What an amazing authentic French experience in one of the oldest houses in Caen. We had the Si Caen m'était conté room with an ensuite, which was perfect. It was everything we hoped for. The room was very clean and spacious with welcoming fresh flowers. Anne is an excellent host, so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. She even showed us around her beautiful garden. The house is situated very close to the town center with fantastic restaurants only a short walk away. The breakfast was very good, plenty of local produce. We were in Normandy for a D-Day tour but didn't realize how much there was to see and do in historic Caen. We wanted to avoid the usual chain hotels and stay somewhere with the locals and experience real French hospitality. Anne delivered this and more. I would highly recommend Le Relais Saint Gilles. What an unforgettable experience, only wish we had had more time there.

We had one night here with our three children in the second floor 2-bed apartment. What an amazing find, it's so beautiful - the house is full of gorgeous furniture, the views are wonderful, and the location is perfect. We were catching the ferry back to Portsmouth the next morning and it was ideally located to get to the port. Anne is very welcoming and made us feel completely at home - she let the children run around in the garden and it was such a pleasure to meet her. We'd definitely recommend a stay here and we hope to be back one day. A rare gem and we were so pleased to find it!

This is one of the most pleasant and interesting houses that we have ever stayed, so much so that we extended our original two night stay to the rest of the week.
First I should say, as it is always nice to know, that the website is accurate in its description of the house, the location and its proximity to points of interest in Caen.
The house itself is fascinating and the garden is beautiful and seems almost to fuse with the interior. The bedrooms are comfortable , sympathetically furnished with high ceilings overlooking the Rue de Chanoires. The owners are kind, knowledgeable and very helpful. The breakfasts are excellent and varied . There is no private parking but during the course of the week I always managed to find a spot close by with no charge. The two bedrooms have intriguing names one referring indirectly to its elephant wallpaper . Our room called Si Caen m'était conté I forgot to ask about. I dont know maybe it is a quotation (which I cant find) or maybe it means that it is the essence of Caen as told in stories. A great place nevertheless.
P.S. the bed was extremely comfortable too.
Relais St Gilles

We had a great time exploring Caen, based at Relais- a truly terrific place to base yourself. Very friendly, Anne is a wonderful hostess. Total privacy to come and go at leasure. The house and garden is inspiring/ beautiful with high French taste and much artistic input from the owners. Comfortable quiet rooms/ spotless 'power' shower. Delicious breakfast with home grown fruits and hand made jams. Would highly recommend to anyone. It was lovely to be in a real French home. Many good restaurants/ bars/ historic interest a few walking moments down the road.

Merci beaucoup a Anne.
