Description for Gite

The DER Lake is renowned for its significant role in the conservation of bird species, serving as a breeding ground, winter habitat, and migration stopover for over 200 different types of birds, some of which are protected. The lake features three marinas - Nemours, Nuisement, and Giffaumont - all of which have been awarded the prestigious blue flag label for their excellent facilities and environmental standards.

Visitors to the lake can enjoy a variety of activities, including swimming at any of the six beaches, fishing, and engaging in various water sports such as windsurfing, power boating, and water skiing. Additionally, there are approximately 250 km of well-marked paths and cycle routes that allow for scenic hikes and cycling trips around the lake, spanning 38 km, or connecting to Saint-Dizier along the Canal de la Marne, which stretches for 12 km.

The surrounding region of Der is also known for its charming half-timbered religious buildings, such as the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Châtillon-sur-Broué. A dedicated tourist route has been established to guide visitors through these architectural gems, which date back to the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries.

In close proximity to the lake, visitors can explore attractions such as the national stud farm of Montier-en-Der, the Protestant Museum, and the Romanesque church of Wassy. Additionally, the towns of Vitry-le-François, Saint-Dizier, and Bar-le-Duc offer further opportunities for exploration. For nature enthusiasts, the Orient Forest Regional Natural Park, home to a series of artificial lakes designed to regulate the flooding of the Seine River, is a must-visit destination.

LA ROSERAIE can be easily accessed via several routes, including departmental road 13 from Vitry-le-François, departmental road 384 from Saint-Dizier, departmental roads 153 and 4, and RN 67 when coming from Wassy, Joinville, Chaumont, or Dijon. Visitors coming from Montier-en-Der can take departmental road 12. The nearest aerodrome is Vitry-le-François - Vauclerc, and the closest SNCF station is located in Saint-Dizier.
