Description for B&B:

Welcome to The House of Stone,

This story revolves around a family house located in the heart of the Auvergne region. The owner, deeply in love with the area, wanted to share their experiences and the small pleasures of life here.

Welcome to Vernet Sainte Marguerite, a picturesque village perched over 1000 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Monne river, the southernmost volcano in the chain of Puys, and the towering slopes of Sancy. Those familiar with the Auvergne region will never tire of the breathtaking views that await them upon reaching the heights of Vernet Sainte Marguerite. However, in winter, the plateau becomes a true test for drivers on snow, reminiscent of the Nordic countries.

This charming cottage, classified as 3 stars, comfortably accommodates 4 people. It is ideally located for hiking enthusiasts who wish to explore both the volcanic craters and the peaks of the Massif Central.

With its beautiful slate roof, the house offers an atmosphere of "raw wood and animal skins" complemented by antique decor chosen by the owner. Boxing gloves, the ancestor of the squash racquet, and old transistor horns hang as trophies. Modern comforts, although discreet, include a pellet stove nestled between the hutch and buffet, a cozy couch, and a TV screen hidden in a cabinet, reminiscent of a time when ORTF was still in its early days. The kitchen, with its open counter to the dining room, exudes a rustic charm but does not yet have a dishwasher.

To chase the sun, you can enjoy breakfast on the deck or the balcony, while admiring the quaint and rural heritage of Vernet Sainte Marguerite. Take in the view of the village church, the square with its monument dedicated to soldiers of the two wars, the town hall, the fountain, and the wash house where you might even spot some women doing their laundry. In the distance, you can see the Puy Allou.

A wooden staircase leads to the attic where the sleeping area is located, consisting of two bedrooms - one with a double bed (140) and the other with two single beds (90). The bathroom and toilet are on the ground floor.

The cottage is situated between Lake Chambon and Lake Aydat, and is conveniently located near the Nordic areas of Pessade and Beaune le Froid. It is also surrounded by the peaks of Puy Balladou and the Monne gorges. The House of Stone is the perfect place to come and enjoy the beauty of Auvergne in every season.
