Babaudus, a small village in the Charente Departement, was part of a group of villages that were reorganized into the Haute-Vienne in the early 19th century. The village had its own school, which is now a children's holiday center, as well as a blacksmith shop and a bakery. Le Campagnard, the local bar and restaurant, is housed in a building that dates back to the late 18th century. During World War Two, it served as a safe house and weapons store for the local French resistance. It continued to be a popular gathering place until the 1960s, under the ownership and management of the same local family for over a century. After undergoing changes in ownership and a period of closure, Le Campagnard has recently undergone significant refurbishment for its reopening as a Chambres d'Hotes with a Licensed Restaurant for guests to enjoy.
